Student Council
Welcome to the Griffin Memorial School Student Council Web Page!

The GMS Student Council consists of one girl and one boy from each 4th grade classroom. In the fall of each school year, the 4th grade classes are given an overview of expectations for Student Council members and the opportunity to sign-up. Two names are randomly chosen from each classes’ sign-up, responsibilities and expectations are reviewed with the chosen students, and permission slips given to notify parents of their child’s leadership opportunity. Once all slips are in, the newly formed Student Council begins their work! These students take on the important role of being a student leader at GMS. Council members work closely with Miss Maghakian to plan and organize activities. Meetings normally take place during lunch and/or recess periods, one to two times per month. During those meetings many topics are discussed:
- Building school spirit
- Planning fundraisers
- Initiating food and clothing drives
- Deciding how to spend student funds to support the school and students
Joining Student Council is an important decision and a serious commitment. Members are required to share ideas, work well together, compromise, and be role models for other students. There are some after school responsibilities as well including School Board presentations, Kids Voting booth, carwash, etc. Student Council members are young leaders and role models. Each year the Student Council group brings new ideas and spirit to the GMS community as a whole
